TIME.
For the last several years the clock pictured in this post
served as the go to clock of my dining room table area.
Recently, I became super “aware” of how often my wife and I unconsciously
glance up at this clock during meals, especially so in the mornings during breakfast.
Being timely and what time it was used to really matter to me.
Today, Im hyper aware that the importance that I formerly placed upon constant time monitoring
was creating low level anxiety.
Time. For change.
Old me.
Wore a watch, phone with a clock, pager (clock), cloc in the car, several on the walls at home.
(Subtle, undefinable anxiety- always).
New me.
No watch, Dont own a cell phone, no pager (its not 1995).
The car has one, and ONE clock on the wall now-sort of.
(I feel much more relaxed with new me!)
I felt I being being run by time…granting it too much power. Too much authority.
I felt RUSHED, always kind leaning forward , half present, half thinking of whats next.
It all begins with awareness.
(Breaking habits that no longer serve).
Awareness is the beginning of change.
Awareness leads to action.
Real benefits BEGIN with action.
Today, I removed the clock, took it apart and threw the arms (hands) away.
BOOM.
I then mounted it back up on its former perch of dominance.
I deliberately placed the arm less clock back on the wall to serve as a reminder.
Each time we look at this clock now we will chuckle both at the silliness of the arm less
clock and simultaneously be reminded how unconscious, constant “time gazing” can erode our relaxation., and add to our anxiety, lack of enkoyment, and presence.
(actual clock on my wall)
Welcome to the R3volution.
(You are not alone!)
And….trust me, you’ve got time.
