Stuff.
It’s insidious.
This Christmas time was a keen reminder of this.
Seasonal Stuff.
We deliberately live simply.
Even so, towards Christmas our place becomes “smaller” with the introduction of Christmas “stuff”.
Stuff in the form of decorations, figurines, lights,
a tree, candles, tinsel, and the very storage boxes that contained
these items stacked up in the corner.
Once Christmas is over (or more like mid January) we box all the stuff back up,
march back to the cellar and move other storage boxes (stuff) to put the Christmas
stuff away.
Til next year.
Now, we have room! But ….now our place has a void.
Do we fill this void with other stuff?
The Void (physical)
The void is the space between things.
Stuff occupied this void.
But what if we simply embrace this void?
Just enjoy it and the space it offers?
The Void (mental)
The best, most present life is to be lived mentally
occurs in “the void”.
The void I speak of is the space between your thoughts.
Fill the void, pay the price.
Text messages beep. Email alerts chime.
Incoming phone calls. IM beeps. Updates.
Notifications (so many of them…pushed to you).
24/7 BAD News.
All stuff
Mental stuff.
All stuff serves as self inflicted void erasers.
Embracing the smart phone based “know it all, from everywhere , & everyone where ever you are instant life style”
eliminates our highest gift of each day- The VOID!
It fills up the space between our thoughts.
And lack of space (no voids) breeds anxiety and decreases creativity.
The stuff at Christmas is fun, exciting and kinda special.
Probably because It’s for a month, once a year. Then its put away.
We look forward to both setting up Christmas, then when its over…
We look at the New Year and a reset.
But-the self inflicted distraction and void filling digital crazed lifestyle
isn’t just for season.
It doesn’t end.
Its never “over”…..
Unless you decide it is-and choose to open your free gift from the universe- the void.
